Meanwhile, crude <strong>imports dropped 5%<\/strong>, totaling <strong>10.37 million bpd<\/strong>, with domestic production at <strong>4.34 million bpd<\/strong>. The combined total of <strong>14.71 million bpd<\/strong> was slightly below the volume processed, prompting refiners to tap into reserves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>China does not disclose official data on crude stockpile movements, but estimates are derived by subtracting total crude processed from the sum of imports and domestic production.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Decline in Imports and Market Factors<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The decline in <strong>crude imports<\/strong> can be attributed to two key factors:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Chinese refiners <strong>reduced purchases of Russian oil<\/strong> after the outgoing U.S. President <strong>Joe Biden imposed new sanctions<\/strong> in January on tankers carrying Russian crude.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Refiners hesitated to replace Russian supply due to the <strong>high global oil prices<\/strong> in January and February.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Benchmark <strong>Brent crude<\/strong> futures peaked at <strong>$82.63 per barrel<\/strong> on January 15, following a steady rise from <strong>$70 in December 2024<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">China\u2019s Refinery Strategy and Oil Pricing<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Chinese refiners have a history of reducing imports when global oil prices rise too sharply.
